Christine, there are 2 baptisms that possibly correspond to James and John.
James Winstanley baptised 7 Oct 1827 at St Aidans, Billinge son of James and Sarah abode: Winstanley, occupation: nailor.
John Winstanley born 1 May 1929 , baptised 1 Jul 1829 at All Saints, Wigan 3rd son of James and Sarah abode: Winstanley, occupation: nailor.
Also
James Winstanley married Sarah Hitchen 21 Dec 1807 at All Saints, Wigan.
James Winstanley aged 46 of Winstanley buried 8 Jun 1833 at St Aidan, Billinge.
Sarah Winstanley aged 70 of Pemberton buried 12 Jul 1857 at St Aidan, Billinge.
There is a book at Billinge library that gives family graves at St Aidans but unfortunately the library is shut.

Tom Croston, this could possibly them, she would have been a widow on the 1841 with her son's? There were two houses at rainford cottage. My James and ann Wadsworth in one ,Sarah and boys in the other. Don't know what relation James would be to my James?.

Christine, yes Sarah would be a widow in the 1841 census. Due to the limited amount of information on the church records at that time - there were also a lot of James Winstanleys born in the late 1700s - it's difficult to accurately figure out the relationship between the two James. I would assume they were cousins but they may have been uncle and nephew. Good luck in your searches !
